Google’s AI Personal Intelligence Feature Now Accessible to All U.S. Users

On Tuesday, Google revealed the broader availability of Personal Intelligence in the U.S. This feature enables its AI assistant to customize responses by integrating with your Google services, including Gmail and Google Photos. Previously exclusive to subscribers, Personal Intelligence can now be accessed through AI Mode in Search, the Gemini app, and Gemini in Chrome for all users.

Google elaborated in a blog post that “Personal Intelligence simplifies finding what you need by leveraging existing information, whether you’re searching for a particular sneaker brand bought before or organizing a family trip using hotel bookings and past vacation photos, removing the need for extensive context.”

By default, Personal Intelligence is disabled, granting users control over when and if they link their Google applications to these capabilities.

While any AI chatbot can provide a car’s tire size if you’ve forgotten it at a tire shop, Personal Intelligence enhances Gemini’s capabilities. It can, for instance, recommend all-weather tires by cross-referencing family road-trip images in Google Photos.

Consider planning a vacation and seeking activities and dining options suitable for your entire family. Personal Intelligence allows AI Mode to leverage your Gmail hotel reservations and Google Photos travel history to craft a personalized itinerary. This could include suggestions like a vintage ice cream parlor, inspired by numerous ice cream-related photos in your Google Photos library.

Alternatively, if you’re seeking a new bag to complement recently purchased shoes, Personal Intelligence within Chrome will present customized options aligning with your latest acquisitions, favorite brands, and styles. These suggestions might even incorporate fine points, such as handbags featuring hardware that pairs well with your new gold footwear.

Google clarifies that Gemini does not directly utilize your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library for training. Rather, its learning is based on specific prompts given in Gemini or AI Mode and the subsequent responses generated by the model.

Currently, Personal Intelligence is live in the U.S. for AI Mode in Search, and its deployment for free-tier users in the U.S. is commencing in the Gemini app and Gemini in Chrome.

Google specifies that these functionalities are exclusively for personal Google accounts and are not offered to Workspace business, enterprise, or education account holders.
