Amulya Vishwanath, who dedicated seven years to leading product marketing for NVIDIA’s robotics platforms, asserts that the robotics sector is currently navigating its “Lego era.” This phase involves the foundational components, such as actuators, robotic hands, software, and safety standards, still being refined and re-established.
This perspective diverges from those who believe that robotics, driven by a general foundation model, is on the cusp of its “ChatGPT moment” — referencing the launch of the remarkably capable chatbot in late 2022. For instance, General Intuition CEO Pim de Witte previously told Equity earlier this year that a single general foundation model would render much of today’s specialized robotics work redundant, marking that pivotal moment.
In a recent installment of TechCrunch’s Equity podcast, Dominic-Madori Davis engaged with Vishwanath to explore her initial investment choices as the founder and managing partner of Techable VC. They also discussed her insights gained as one of the first women executives to transition from Nvidia and establish her own early-stage firm, which focuses on investing in physical AI across robotics, materials science, and life sciences.
