Amulya Vishwanath, who dedicated seven years to leading product marketing for NVIDIA’s robotics platforms, asserts that the robotics sector is currently in its “Lego era.” This means the essential components such as actuators, robotic hands, software, and safety standards are still under development and being fundamentally re-established.
This perspective challenges the popular belief that robotics, powered by a general foundation model, is on the verge of experiencing its “ChatGPT moment” — similar to the launch of the remarkably capable chatbot in late 2022. (Earlier this year, General Intuition CEO Pim de Witte informed Equity that a singular general foundation model would largely supersede much of the specialized robotics work done today, marking that pivotal moment.)
In this installment of TechCrunch’s Equity podcast, Dominic-Madori Davis conversed with Vishwanath to delve into her initial investment priorities as the founder and managing partner of Techable VC. They also explored the insights she gained as one of the first female executives to depart Nvidia and establish her own early-stage firm, which invests in physical AI across fields like robotics, materials science, and life sciences.
