Threads Introduces ‘Dear Algo’ AI Feature for Personalized Feed Adjustments

The Meta-owned social network Threads has announced the launch of a new AI-powered function that allows users to customize their feed. Dubbed “Dear Algo,” this new feature empowers users to temporarily specify what they would like to see more or less of within their feed.

To utilize this functionality, users are required to type “Dear Algo” into a public Threads post, followed by their preference for content inclusion or exclusion. For instance, to increase exposure to content about popular podcasts, one could post “Dear algo, show me more posts about podcasts.” Once submitted, your feed will reflect these adjustments for a duration of three days.

It is important to note that since Dear Algo operates via public posts, other users can view your requests and even repost them to apply the same adjustments to their own feeds. This public nature of the feature might concern some users who prefer privacy for their personalization choices. However, Meta views this as an opportunity for users to discover new conversations and topics, transforming personalization into a shared community experience.

By enabling users to temporarily influence their feed content, Threads distinguishes itself from competitors, offering a unique personalization feature not available on rival platforms.

“Threads is where you go to keep up with what’s happening right now,” the company elaborated in a blog post. “But sometimes, what matters to you changes in an instant, and you want your Threads feed to reflect that — whether it’s seeing more posts during a live NBA game or less about a TV show you haven’t caught up on yet.”

While Threads and its competitors, X and Bluesky, already provide users with basic preference controls like a ‘Not Interested’ button, the new Dear Algo feature elevates personalization. This capability could also enhance Threads’ reputation for real-time relevance, a characteristic historically associated with X.

Dear Algo is currently accessible in the U.S., New Zealand, Australia, and the U.K., with plans for a broader international rollout in the future.

This new feature’s debut follows a report from market intelligence firm Similarweb, which indicated a few weeks prior that Threads now surpasses X in terms of daily mobile usage. Although X maintains its lead over Threads on the web, the Threads mobile application for both iOS and Android has consistently shown an increase in daily active users over recent months.

The report further specified that as of January 7, 2026, Threads had 141.5 million daily active users on mobile, compared to X’s 125 million.
