Facebook Marketplace is introducing several new Meta AI capabilities, such as an automatic message response system for buyer inquiries, as disclosed by Facebook on Thursday. Additionally, the platform is leveraging AI to accelerate item listings, create profile summaries for sellers, and provide sellers with the choice to include shipping for their products.
According to the company, given the high volume of buyer messages sellers often receive, it is streamlining the process of replying to initial communications through Meta AI-driven auto-responses. Consequently, when potential buyers ask about an item’s status, sellers can utilize Meta AI to automatically generate responses incorporating details from their listing, including its description, availability, collection point, and cost. Sellers retain the ability to activate, review, and modify these automated replies while setting up their listings.
This enhancement aims to alleviate a frequent challenge faced by sellers, who typically wish to avoid spending undue time on initial or repetitive questions, like ‘Is this available?’ when an item’s availability is already indicated. Notably, one seller had previously developed their own AI solution last year specifically to manage these preliminary queries from prospective purchasers.
Furthermore, Facebook Marketplace now allows sellers to automatically post items with the assistance of Meta AI. Upon uploading an item’s image, Meta AI is capable of generating a preliminary listing, populating its specifics, and proposing a price derived from comparable local offerings.
Moreover, buyers will now find a concise overview of a seller’s Facebook profile prominently displayed on their Marketplace page. This summary will feature details like the seller’s tenure on Facebook and their friend count. The overview will also encompass a digest of their Marketplace activities, such as their history of listings, the categories of items they vend, and their performance ratings as a seller.
According to Facebook, sellers are now able to broaden their audience by incorporating shipping options into their listings. They can also produce prepaid shipping labels and conveniently monitor all orders through an intuitive dashboard.
These new AI functionalities complement Facebook Marketplace’s established Meta AI integrations, which include a feature that assists buyers in formulating appropriate questions during a transaction and AI-driven insights for vehicle advertisements.
