Google announced new functionalities for its Vids video editor app on Thursday, including text-prompted avatar direction and customization, Veo 3.1 integration, direct YouTube video export, and a new Chrome extension for screen recording.
Users can now employ natural language prompts to guide avatars to “act” within a scene. This functionality extends to avatars interacting with various elements like products, props, or equipment. The company emphasized that Vids maintains character consistency despite the dynamic nature of these AI-generated outputs.
Google explained that users can tailor characters by adjusting their appearance, altering clothing, and generating new backgrounds using prompts, all based on the video’s theme.
Last month, Google integrated its Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro music creation models into Vids, enabling users to add sound effects or music to their clips. With this current update, Google introduces the Veo 3.1 video-generation model, allowing the creation of eight-second video clips directly within the editing tool. The company offers 10 free generations per month to all users, while Google AI Ultra and Workspace AI Ultra accounts can generate up to 1,000 Veo videos monthly.
Furthermore, Google is introducing the capability to export completed videos directly to YouTube, simplifying the process by eliminating the need for downloading and re-uploading. All exported videos are initially set to private, allowing users to review them before making them public.
The company is also adding a new screen-recording Chrome extension to the video suite, which allows users to capture their screen content along with audio or video.
