Google Chrome’s Autofill Gets AI Upgrade, Integrating Gmail Data for Enhanced Form Completion

Google is enhancing its Chrome browser with an AI-driven update to its autofill feature. The company announced on Wednesday that Chrome will soon feature an advanced autofill system, designed to assist users in completing online forms by drawing suggestions directly from their Gmail accounts.

This enhancement implies that Chrome will be able to propose crucial details such as flight confirmation codes, membership identifiers, package tracking numbers, order details, addresses, phone numbers, or credit card information, all by consulting your email inbox.

This new functionality builds upon Google’s existing Personal Intelligence framework, which currently enables individuals to link their Google Applications with the Gemini AI assistant to access specific information and leverage it for resolving intricate queries.

While this update might appear subtle, it has the potential to significantly streamline Chrome’s usability, thereby providing users with a compelling incentive to remain within Google’s browser and its broader AI ecosystem. The feature echoes one of Apple’s highly valued capabilities: its knack for automatically recognizing verification codes delivered via text messages and presenting them above the keyboard for effortless, single-tap entry.

Consistent with other Personalized Intelligence options, users retain control over enabling or disabling this advanced autofill functionality through their Chrome settings. Google assures that sensitive information handled by the feature is encrypted.

This capability is currently being deployed for desktop users in the U.S., as well as within the iOS and Android applications for Gemini in Chrome.
