Facebook has joined other social media platforms in providing users with enhanced control over the algorithms that dictate the content displayed in their feeds.
On Tuesday, Meta unveiled its new AI-driven tool, “Your Algorithm,” for Facebook, following its initial introduction on Instagram. This innovative feature empowers Facebook users to shape the content in their Feed and Reels by articulating their preferences using natural language. Instead of solely depending on automated suggestions, users can now directly inform the platform about the subjects and content they wish to encounter more or less often.
Meta states that this feature aims to enhance the relevance of content recommendations. Users have the ability to modify their preferences and engage with the algorithms that rank and suggest posts, with these adjustments taking immediate effect in their personalized recommendations.
Additionally, the company has refined Facebook’s three-dot menu, simplifying the process for users to manage their content preferences directly from individual posts. Through this menu, users can access “Your Algorithm” or choose “Interested” and “Not interested” to signal if specific content aligns with their tastes.
Meta indicates that the platform might pose follow-up questions to gain a deeper insight into users’ likes and dislikes, enabling them to offer more comprehensive feedback. Users can specify what content they prefer to see more or less of, assisting Facebook in honing its recommendations based on their input.
The rollout of “Your Algorithm” underscores Meta’s wider initiative to empower individuals with greater command over their social media interactions, particularly as AI plays a growing role in content discovery. This development signifies a departure from the conventional recommendation engines that have long influenced social media, aligning the platform more closely with streaming services where users can customize suggestions according to their interests and preferences.
This launch also complements Meta’s ongoing personalization initiatives across its other platforms. Instagram rolled out Your Algorithm in June, expanding customization capabilities across Feed and Explore, having initially introduced the feature for Reels in December 2025.
Similarly, Threads launched its related feature, “Dear Algo,” which enables users to influence the content they are recommended.
